Tuesday E-mail

Hello Garfield families. Happy Tuesday!

It looks like we may be heading into a stretch of winter weather so it’s important that we have the correct contact number in PowerSchool for you. When school is dismissed early, starts late, or is cancelled, you will receive a call with this information as soon as the decision is made. If you did not receive a call this morning, it’s because the phone number we have on file for you is not correct and it needs to be updated. If this is the case, please contact the office with an updated number. You may also view school cancellations, late starts and early dismissals on the District website at and on the local news websites and

The PTA Free Pancake Breakfast for Dinner is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 16th from 5:00 – 6:30pm in the Garfield gym. The pancakes will be delicious, and they will be served to you by Garfield Staff members…what could be better than that?! Please keep in mind, all students must be accompanied by an adult at the dinner. Hope to see you there!!

Popcorn Day is this Friday, January 14th! Popcorn costs .50cents per bag and you may purchase up to 4 bags. Popcorn is not eaten at school, it is sent home with the students at the end of the day to enjoy at home. It's the perfect addition to a Friday Night Movie Night!!

Keep collecting and turning in your Hy-Vee receipts. We will have a drawing for 3 awesome prizes at our monthly assembly on Friday, January 25th!! The prizes are : NUM NOMS Nail polish Maker, Zoom Tubes Car Trax and a Pinball Paint Machine!! Now that's some cool stuff!!!

Now that we have some actual snow on the ground the kids are going to want to play in it at recess. In order to do so, they must be sent to school with the appropriate clothing. Please make sure you send boots and snow pants as well as the usual hats, gloves and coats. Your kids will appreciate it!

I would also like to remind you of some information about the new Volunteer and Visitor Management System that Garfield will be rolling out in the spring. This new system will provide us with a way to keep more accurate visitor records, track our volunteers and most importantly Keep our School Safer! Something that I need you to keep in mind, you will need a form of ID such as a driver's license to be able to check into the building once this system is implemented. I will keep reminding and updating you on this so that it's not a surprise when we roll it out in April. Our main priority is to keep our students safe and this system will help us do that!!

Report Cards will be coming home on Thursday, January 24th. Make sure you check those backpacks! A sign-up sheet for conferences will be available for you at the Pancake Dinner. Conferences will be on Feb. 19th and Feb. 21st. Sign up early to get the time you want!

Lastly, don’t forget there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 21st!!

That’s it for now. Have a great rest of the day!
